"LEARN TO SKI OR SNOWBOARD"
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Q:        I have decided to ski/snowboard, what should I do next?
A: Do a little homework. Review our website's trail map and orientation map to familiarize yourself with our resort overall and a few important details.

Q:  What should I pack to bring to the resort for my ski or snowboard lessons?
A: A suggested packing list is below. Plan ahead, and run through your packing checklist before you leave home. If you forget anything, most resort retail shops offer a variety of accessories at reasonable prices.

Q:  How do I get to Winter Park Resort?
A: From the Denver area, take I-70 West to Exit 232, Hwy 40. Exit right, and continue along Hwy 40, over Berthoud Pass, continuing until you see the stoplight/large sign that says "WINTER PARK RESORT." Turn left at this light to enter the Resort. Click here to view a highway map.

Q:  Where should I park when I arrive?
A:

Winter Park offers a free, short-term "drop-off" area, a free "first-timer's shuttle" from the drop-off area, two pay lots ($10-15/vehicle), and several free parking lots served by free shuttle buses. Depending on your personal preferences, your budget, the number of people in your party, and what time you arrive, you can determine which parking services best fit your needs. All parking areas are clearly signed.

Q:  After I park, what are my next steps?
A:

Go to Guest Services, located in the Balcony House and purchase your lift & lesson tickets. Once you check in, ask for directions to the ski or snowboard rental shop and/or day locker rooms as needed. The desk staff will also show you where to meet your instructor for the lesson. Click here to view the Ski and Snowboard School map. Meeting areas are marked on the map. We suggest this arrival sequence as the most efficient use of your time:

  1. Park your vehicle.
  2. Shuttle/walk to Guest Services and check in for your lesson.
  3. If you need to rent ski or snowboard equipment, go to the West Portal Rental Shop.
  4. Take your personal gear to the West Portal locker room. Unlocked ski racks, our attended ski-check or your own locks can be used to store your skis/boards outside.
  5. Rent a day locker ($1 token per entry), get dressed for your lesson, visit the restroom, and head outside to your lesson area for some FUN

SKI & SNOWBOARD PACKING CHECKLIST:

The best way to get off on the right foot is to plan ahead and pack well for your day on the slopes.
Here's a helpful checklist with suggestions to get you started:

Backpack or gear bag/duffle - Many people keep their ski and snowboard gear in one handy bag and use it every time they head to the mountains
Hat - When your head is warm, the rest of you is more likely to stay warm
Waterproof Gloves or Mittens - Mittens are warmest
Goggles - Optional, but best for snowy days
Sunglasses - An absolute must. UV protection is recommended.
Water-resistant pants - Wind pants, insulated
Warm, dry socks - Bring an extra pair
Jacket/parka - Water-resistant is best
Extra lightweight sweater or sweatshirt - For layering, if needed. Wool or Dri-weave fabrics are much warmer than cotton.
Sunscreen - SPF 15 or higher.
Pocket tissues - Optional, but your nose may run a little.
Lip Balm - SPF 15 or higher.
Energy Bar - Just in case you need a little boost.
Trail Map - Enclosed in this packet, or readily available at the resort.
ID/wallet/petty cash - Store in a secure, zipper pocket.
Water - Stay Hydrated! Drink plenty of water before and after your day on the slopes. Maybe pack an extra bottle of water or two in your ski bag or locker.
